During the recent limitations imposed upon us to curb the global pandemic (COVID-19), we heard that several local farmers were not just losing money, they were also forced to trash most of their harvest, because there were no buyers to purchase these goods and distribute it to the consumer.  We had the opportunity to speak with some of these farmers, who were unsure how to get at least some money for their last harvest so that they could invest in the next year’s crop.

Also, as many of us have experienced, there was a dearth of good quality food, especially the organically grown variety, during the recent lockdowns.  So, we decided to embark on this new venture of distributing locally grown organic foods, which we think is a win-win – the farmer doesn’t have to let the diligently grown items go to waste, while we get to experience the benefits of locally-grown organic foods.

Akella Foods is a subsidiary of Akella Global Services and Trades.  We are starting this new venture with a few frequently-used items.  Our selection of items has been primarily based on our family’s consumption and dietary habits.  Also, we have visited the farms where these items are grown, harvested and stored.  We are distributing only those items that meet and exceed our expectations for quality and flavor.  As we further establish our business and distribution channels, we anticipate adding more items to our Market Place, based on your, the customers’, requests.
